Registration of Vital Events
General Guidelines
Lebanese nationals residing overseas are legally required to register any change in their civil status with the nearest Lebanese Mission as soon as possible.
Application to register must be made in person by the appropriate person.
Only original documents can be accepted for all types of registration.
Marriage Registration
I- If both spouses are Lebanese:
-Lebanese I.D. Card or an Extract of Individual Civil Registry Record (Ikhraj Kayd Fardy) for each.
-The official Australian Marriage Certificate issued by the Registry Office.
II- If either spouse is non-Lebanese:
-Lebanese Partner’s (Husband/Wife) I.D. Card or an Extract of Individual Civil Registry Record (Ikhraj Kayd Fardy).
-Foreign partner’s Birth Certificate & a copy of passport or driving license.
-The official Australian Marriage Certificate issued by the Registry Office.
N.B.: One year after the official registration IN LEBANON of the marriage, the wife has the right to apply for Lebanese citizenship.
Birth Registration
Before the Consulate-General can process a birth registration, the parents must provide a marriage certificate or a recent family census record “Ikhraj Kayd A’ily” verifying the registration of their marriage in the Civil-Acts Register in Lebanon. In case it is not, then the marriage must be registered either before or together with the birth registration.
-Lebanese identity papers of both parents: an I.D. Card or a single Extract of individual Civil Registry Record (Ikhraj Kayd Fardy), plus a marriage certificate or a family census record (Ikhraj Kayd A’ily).
-The official Australian Birth Certificate issued by the registry office.
Only Parents can register or the person himself/herself, if over age.
Death Registration
-The Official Australian Death Certificate issued by the registry office.
-Australian Passport for the deceased plus a Lebanese ID Card or an Extract of a recent Individual and a Family Civil Registry Record (Ikhraj Kayd Fardy or A’ily) for the deceased and his/her spouse.
Only direct beneficiaries can register.
Fee: $14.00
Divorce Registration
- The marriage should first have been registered either in Lebanon or at any mission and executed in the Civil Acts Register in Lebanon.
- The final divorce will take effect in Lebanon after sanction by the Relevant Court. For this reason, the applicant should nominate an attorney to follow up on the papers in Lebanon.
I- If both spouses are Lebanese:
-The Lebanese identity papers for both husband & wife, “an I.D. Card or an Extract of Individual and Family Civil Registry Record.
-Lebanese Marriage Certificate.
-The Divorce Court Order translated in Arabic by an accredited translator and both the order and the translation separately legalized by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. (Authentication)
Fee: 85.50 AUD for the legalization of the Divorce Court Order, plus $55.00 per page for the legalization of the Arabic translation.
II- In the case of a non-Lebanese partner:
Same as above plus the partner’s Birth Certificate and a copy of his/her passport.
Citizenship
Acquiring another nationality does not result in losing the original Lebanese citizenship as Lebanon accepts the principle of dual citizenship. Foreign wives of Lebanese husbands are entitled to obtain Lebanese citizenship one year after the marriage has been registered in the Civil Acts Register in Lebanon. A foreign wife who is entitled to Lebanese Citizenship and wishes to obtain it requires the following:
-Lebanese Marriage Certificate or a recent Extract of the Family Civil Registry Record (Ikhraj Qayd A’ily), showing the date of registration of marriage.
-The wife’s Birth Certificate.
-The wife’s valid passport showing her current surname.
-The husband’s Lebanese I.D. Card or Extract of Individual Civil Registry Record (Ikhraj Qayd Fardy).
